WhatsApp to Enable Media File Sharing with Other Apps
WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform, is reportedly working on a new feature...
WhatsApp has announced it will discontinue support for several older iPhone models and iOS versions, including the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, according to a report.
The move is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to stay updated with the latest technological advancements to improve user experience. Effective May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will cease support for iOS versions earlier than 15.1. Currently, the app supports devices running iOS 12 and above, but after the update, users will need at least iOS 15.1 to continue using WhatsApp.
Users with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, which are limited to iOS 12.5.7, will no longer be able to access the app after the specified date.
The decision is in line with WhatsApp’s strategy to make use of updated APIs and newer technologies that enable the platform to improve performance, introduce new features, and provide a better user experience. Older iOS versions lack the necessary support for these advancements, leading WhatsApp to focus its resources on devices with more recent operating systems.
WhatsApp’s analysis suggests that a small segment of its user base still relies on older iOS versions, allowing the platform to direct its resources towards enhancing the app for the majority of users.
