T-Mobile has begun large-scale testing of its satellite-to-phone service, using SpaceX’s Starlink satellites to extend connectivity in remote areas.

The goal is to address mobile dead zones and provide service in regions with limited or no network coverage.

As part of the testing phase, the satellite service is being offered for free until it is fully integrated into T-Mobile’s Go5G Next plan, which will launch in July 2025. After that, the service will be available for $15 per month across T-Mobile’s premium plans.

Once launched, the satellite-to-phone service will cover 500,000 square miles in the US, areas that were previously unreachable by traditional cell towers. The trial currently includes free text messaging, with plans to introduce voice and data services in the future.

T-Mobile is also offering a 33% discount to users who sign up for the trial when the service officially rolls out. The announcement was made during the Super Bowl on Sunday, highlighting the potential of this new technology to improve connectivity for users in rural and underserved regions.

This initiative marks a major step forward in improving mobile connectivity across the US, providing users with more reliable service in areas where traditional networks often fall short.
