TikTok ban update: Android users find new way to download app
TikTok has introduced an alternative download method for Android users in the US to bypass restrictions. The app can now be installed using package kits from TikTok’s website, as it remains unavailable on Google and Apple’s app stores.
The restriction follows a US law enacted on January 19, requiring ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to sell the app or face a ban due to national security concerns.
However, newly sworn-in US President Donald Trump signed an order delaying the law’s implementation by 75 days. He mentioned that discussions on TikTok’s acquisition are ongoing, with a final decision expected by February.
Trump also signed an executive order on Monday for the creation of a sovereign wealth fund, which could potentially acquire TikTok. Meanwhile, US officials continue to raise concerns about data security and potential misuse of American user data by ByteDance.
Free speech advocates oppose the TikTok ban, arguing that it limits digital freedom. TikTok, on the other hand, insists that its data is stored on Oracle-managed US servers and that content moderation for American users is handled within the country. The platform continues to fight for its presence in the US amid ongoing legal and political debates.
