The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has joined forces with Mythical Games to develop a new mobile football game, ‘FIFA Rivals,’ for iOS and Android devices.
The game, set to be free-to-play, will feature in-game and web marketplaces powered by Mythical Games’ Mythos blockchain, allowing players to buy and sell football stars with real money.
In ‘FIFA Rivals,’ gamers will have the opportunity to create and manage their own football club. Players can build and enhance their lineups and engage in real-time player-versus-player (PvP) arcade-style gameplay. The collaboration aims to provide an innovative mobile-first gaming experience that strengthens fans’ connection to the sport.
Mattias Grafström, FIFA’s secretary general, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We’re thrilled to partner with Mythical Games to launch ‘FIFA Rivals,’ bringing football fans a mobile-first gaming experience that deepens their connection to the sport. The game is an innovative and accessible addition to our expanding gaming and esports portfolio.”
FIFA’s game franchise, launched in 1993, has become one of the best-selling video game series worldwide. The FIFA series has made significant milestones, with FIFA 12 being the fastest-selling sports game ever.
The latest installment, released in September 2022, has sold over 10 million copies. Mythical Games, known for developing titles like Blankos, NFL Rivals, and Nitro Nation World Tour, is the first developer to integrate a blockchain marketplace into mobile gaming.
