World Osteoporosis Day is being observed on October 20 worldwide including Pakistan.
This day is observed to set aims that the earlier you start investing in the health of your bones and getting enough calcium in your diet; the better your bone health will be as you age.
On this occasion, different NGOs and health organizations conduct seminars and awareness programs through which they highlights the importance of Osteoporosis among the elderly and young adults.
Consuming enough calcium in your diet is not only important as you grow older. Children, teenagers and young adults need enough calcium to continue building bone mass into their mid-20s.
From then on, bone mass can be lost without sufficient calcium in our diets.
World Osteoporosis Day was launched on October 20th 1996 by the United Kingdom’s National Osteoporosis Society and supported by the European Commission.
Since 1997, the awareness day has been organized by the International Osteoporosis Foundation.
In 1998 and 1999, the World Health Organization acted as co-sponsor of World Osteoporosis Day.
The day also marks the launch of a year-long campaign to raise awareness of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease. These campaigns have featured a specific theme.
