It has been made mandatory in almost every country around the world for everyone to wear a mask when stepping out in public to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Almost every shop, cafes and other public places which are open are following this rule. Recently, a Starbucks barista followed the same rule and refused to give coffee to a customer who was not wearing a mask.
The customer identified as Amber Lynn Gilles, lashed out at the barista Lenin Gutierrez and posted his picture on her Facebook account without his consent. She captioned the picture as,
“Meet Lenin from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I’m not wearing a mask. Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption.”
She did not know that her one post would bring her under the hot water. Netizens started to appreciate Lenin for doing his job correctly and following the prescribed rules to avoid the spread of the novel virus.
Netizen Matt Cowan on Facebook created a GoFundMe page and believed the 26-year-old barista was being bullied for doing the right thing.
Titled “Tips for Lenin Standing Up To A San Diego Karen,” the GoFundMe page became a huge hit in no time as it gave everyone the chance to send Lenin online / virtual tips and show support. Matt set the target amount initially at $1,000. However, through this page, Lenin has now earned nearly $80,000 as a virtual tip.
Lenin posted on his Facebook page,
