Some anonymous persons in India posted an ad on a buying and selling website OLX to sell the old Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23BN fighter aircraft, a reminiscent of Kargil War, displayed at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Some unknown person has listed the plane at the price of Rs 9.99 crore (Indian rupee).

Indian Air Force had gifted the aircraft to the University in 2009. AMU has ordered an investigation to find the persons behind the advertisements.

Prof Mohammad Wasim Ali, the University proctor, has clarified that any present or former student or University member is not behind the ad. According to an Indian news agency, he said, “The post on OLX about the sale of aircraft installed in the campus is wrong. University has not taken any step to auction or sell it. We are looking into the matter. It’s an attempt to defame the university.”

The University informed the IT cell of the district administration, police, and the classifieds website when the ad went viral. The ad was later deleted. The University has decided to take legal action against the people behind this.

According to the international news source, the MIG-23BN, made by the Soviet Union in the 1970s, was introduced into the Indian Air Force on 24th January 1981. The fighter jet was decommissioned after 28 years of service on 6th March 2009. The aircraft had been used in several activities including the Kargil war.

On the other hand, missiles have been launched by Iran at a mock-up of a US aircraft carrier in the Strait of Hormuz.
