Indians couldn’t control their calm after historian Tom Holland with the Twitter handle @holland_tom ridiculed India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi for renaming a cricket stadium after him.

The historian tweeted,

“I’m a huge admirer of the modesty Modi showed in naming the world’s largest cricket stadium after himself.”

He further wrote,

“Not always a good sign for countries when leaders start pulling that trick…”

However, Indians mistook the Twitter account with the actor Tom Holland, a 24-year-old British star of the Spider-Man series of Marvel movies. Soon after the tweet from the historian made rounds on social media, #boycottspiderman started to trend on the micro-blogging site.

One of the social media users wrote,

“This is India’s internal matter. We will teach you a lesson of lifetime. #boycottspiderman”

Another one wrote,

“You conspirator, conspiring against the global leader (Modi). You just wait, Delhi police are coming for you.”

The historian later apologized and wrote,

“Oh dear — I seem single-handed to have destroyed prospects for the next Spider-Man in India. I should have remembered that with great power comes great responsibility.”

He further wrote,

“Just for the record, & to save Marvel’s profits in India, I freely acknowledge that Narendra Modi is a man of immense humility, and that his naming the world’s largest cricket stadium after himself is in no way quite hilariously immodest.”

Many Indians also started to troll those who got mad at the wrong Tom Holland.
