A MAN has been mauled to death by a great white shark, and another corpse has gone missing off the coast of South Africa as a result of the horrific attack.

A hiker discovered the savaged body of a swimmer washed ashore on Durban’s La Lucia beach.

According to medics, a portion of his right upper arm and right chest area were gone, and many shark bites were discovered on his torso.

Another swimmer’s corpse was also apparently seen, but it was carried away by the strong current before rescue personnel arrived.

According to Netcare 911 spokeswoman Shawn Herbst, the alarm was raised at 4.30 p.m. on Friday.

“While officials will ascertain the actual cause of death,” he continued, “it is likely the dead had been predated on following the drowning.”

“According to reports, a man was wandering on the beach when he stumbled upon the rotting body of an adult male face down among washed-up flotsam.

“A second corpse was discovered in the shore break, but it was swept out to sea by the heavy surf before lifeguards arrived.”

“When doctors turned the body over for examination, they discovered that a piece of the right upper arm and right chest area had been severed, with many shark bite marks clearly apparent.”

Herbst said that the body was turned over to Durban Police for further investigation.

It comes after a bodybuilder was murdered by a great white shark whose 16-inch mouth shattered his head and left a scar.

Tomas Butterfield, 42, died on Christmas Eve after being bitten in the head, chest, and shoulder.

He was rescued from the waves after a surfer noticed him face down in the water, still attached to his board, while visiting his mother and brother in California, USA, in December.
