Bengaluru police shares bikers survival video, says ‘helmet saves life’

• The video shows a man riding under a bus while his helmet is wedged under the wheel of the bus.
• It has gone viral online, with over 30,000 views and numerous likes and comments.

Bengaluru’s Joint Commissioner of Traffic Police Dr BR Ravikanthe Gowda tweeted a terrifying video urging bikers to use a “good quality ISI mark helmet.”

The horrific video depicts a man on a bicycle escaping death while riding under a bus tyre.

The video begins with the man, later identified as 19-year-old Alex Silva Peres, riding a two-wheeler at a bend and then crashing directly under an opposing bus.

The wheel is shown striking Mr Alex’s head, which is protected by a helmet, and propelling him forward a few steps.

Mr Alex’s helmet is seen wedged under the wheel when the bus stops. The bus then goes back to get the helmet off, and people gather around to help the 19-year-old, who manages to get away.

As the video gained popularity online, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) also sent a message about the need to wear helmets. “Wearing a helmet is equally important for the pillion rider,” continued the tweet.

A local news source wrote about what happened in Belford Roxo, Rio de Janeiro, on Monday.

The accident barely harmed Alex. On a curve, he saw a bus arriving as he was headed to a bakery. Startled, he tried to halt his bike but slid and fell beneath the bus. The collision footage has gone viral.

Mr Gowda’s post has received over 30,000 views, along with numerous likes and comments.

“Omg very scary, but yes good helmet can save ur life,” a user remarked.

“The video is scary and not from India. But the point is well understood,” added another.
