United States: A 20-year-old guy from Iowa, USA, clapped 1,140 times in one minute, breaking Eli Bishop’s previous Guinness World Record of 1,103 claps. Dalton Meyer, a speed clapper, said a YouTube video of Kate French, previously the fastest clapper in the world, piqued his interest in the sport.

“It came naturally to me, it was like I didn’t even have to practice,” Meyer told the Quad-City Times in Davenport. “Really, I just for some reason knew how to do it,” he said of the record for “most claps in a minute.”

Meyer stated he employed the wrist clapping technique created by Bishop, the former record holder at 1,103 claps in one minute, for his official Guinness World Record attempt.

Wrist clapping is the act of smacking the palm of the opposite hand with the wrists and fingers.

Meyer’s candidacy for the Guinness World Records was aided by Charm Media Group of Illinois, who provided photography equipment to ensure it was correctly recorded in both real-time and slow-motion.

He collaborated with the company to ensure that the effort was recorded with good audio so that his 19 claps per second could be counted and verified by Guinness.

The speed clapper said he attempted the record in March but didn’t hear back from the group until Halloween.

Another odd record

In September, a 14-year-old girl set a Guinness World Record by putting 22 socks on one foot in 30 seconds.
Carolena Kruse of Alberta surpassed India’s Aarif Ibn Abdul Halim, who established the previous record of 19 socks in May.
