Friends continue to be one of the most recognizable sitcoms with a cult following even after all these years. People have continued to visit that figurative room to find solace long after the door to the friends’ flat shut. Even if many of the show’s jokes have fallen flat with time, some of the most adored characters are still Ross, Chandler, Monica, Rachel, Joey, and Phoebe. However, did you know that Friends was once filmed in Hindi?
According to The Quint, Simone Singh, Maria Goretti, Cyrus Broacha, Nikhil Chinapa, Anil Dimbri, and Aparna Banerjee appeared in the “Hello Friends” Desi remake of the American sitcom. It wasn’t simply a rehash; it was a complete remake. It ran for 26 episodes and was a scene-by-scene remake that first aired in 1999 on Zee TV. This indicates that every episode from the first season been translated into Hindi.
Now that a footage from the show has gone viral online, many people are learning about this incident for the first time. A person on Instagram joked, “I fear I downloaded the wrong FRIENDS series.”

Lisa Kudrow, the star of “Friends,” recently declared that if the programme were made today, it would be “totally different,” beginning with a more diverse cast. The younger generation that has found the show in recent years has accused it of having “difficult” stories, with many labelling it as transphobic, homophobic, sexist, and lacking diversity. This is due to the reruns on TV and memes on social media.
The actor, who portrayed the eccentric Phoebe Buffay over the course of the cult NBC series’ ten seasons, defended the programme, claiming that, in the context of 1994, when it first aired, “Friends” was a “quite progressive” show.
Asked what the show be like if it was created today, Kudrow said, “Oh, it’d be completely different. It would not be an all-white cast, for sure. I’m not sure what else, but, to me, it should be looked at as a time capsule, not for what they did wrong.”
“Also, this show thought it was very progressive. There was a guy whose wife discovered she was gay and pregnant, and they raised the child together? We had surrogacy too. It was, at the time, progressive,” the actor added.
