During a recent shoot in the Maldives, a curious tiger shark grabbed the Swiss cinematographer’s 360-degree camera and chewed on it for a while before spitting it out and swimming away. The footage shows the shark’s teeth, throat, and the insides of its gills in a way that has never been seen before.

Zimy Da Kid told The Independent that the shark was interested. “He saw something shiny and thought, “Let me try it,” so he bit the camera.”

Some people are worried about being in the water with a “bitey” tiger shark after seeing the video, but the shark is not being aggressive and is not trying to feed. Sharks can’t use their hands or limbs to check out strange things in their environment, so they use their mouths to learn more about their surroundings. Most of the time, the behavior is surprisingly gentle, and Zimy Da Kid’s camera only got a few small scratches.

The director of photography hopes that his work will make people want to protect nature. He told The Independent, “My goal is to make people fall in love with sharks through beautiful images.” “I started taking pictures of sharks because they are going extinct very, very quickly, which is bad for the ocean. If sharks go extinct, the whole ocean’s ecosystem will break down. If the ocean breaks up, we’ll break up with it.”
