World’s first mobile tower at Siachen Glacier for high-altitude soldiers.
Erected by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.
Siachen Warriors receive strong backing.
The world’s highest battlefield, the Siachen Glacier in the Himalayan region of the eastern Karakoram range, is home to the world’s first mobile tower. On Thursday, the Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army, located in Leh, announced the development on X, the former Twitter platform.
In order to provide mobile connection for soldiers stationed at elevations above 15,500 feet, the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) erected the first-ever base transceiver station (BTS) at forward posts of the highest battlefield on October 6. Additionally, Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan shared images of the BSNL-installed mobile tower with Siachen troops on X.
Chauhan wrote, “BSNL with Siachen Warriors installs first-ever mobile tower at Siachen Glacier. Now our heroes can talk to their near and dear ones at their convenience. Kudos to @BSNLCorporate and #SiachenWarriors.”
“They are the real heroes. Because of them we are safe. Hat’s off to them,” a user commented. “Its a huge thing to do by this government,” said another. “Absolutely incredible news! The installation of the first mobile tower in Siachen is a monumental step, connecting our courageous Jawans with their families. This small device holds immense significance, as it is bridging the gap for those who selflessly defend us on the world’s highest battlefield. Kudos to this remarkable achievement!” another person wrote.
