Jordan has worked with many great musicians and bands throughout the course of his decades-long career. Most notably, he replaced Charlie Watts as drummer for The Rolling Stones following his death in 2021.
Steve Jordan was born on January 14, 1957, and raised in a wealthy musical family in New York City. His father’s record collection served as an inspiration for his early love of drumming. Jordan’s talent flourished as he acquired his first drum set piece by piece, and his early influences, like Art Blakey, helped shape his musical identity.
When Jordan started filling in as the jazz group Stuff’s substitute drummer in the 1970s, his career really took off. Jordan’s work with musical icons like Joe Cocker, The Blues Brothers, and Keith Richards’ Xpensive Winos solidified his reputation as a musician.
Steve Jordan has collaborated with Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen, and Beyoncé, among other artists, in his impressive body of work. In addition to drumming, he produced John Mayer’s Grammy Award-winning album Continuum.
Following the death of Charlie Watts in 2021, Steve Jordan became a member of The Rolling Stones, carrying on the band’s legacy. Jordan is still regarded as a revered figure in the music industry despite having a career spanning several genres and artists and making important contributions to it both on and off stage.
