A video showing an Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-29 fighter jet plummeting to the ground in a flat spin has gone viral.
Earlier today, a MiG-29 fighter jet crashed in a field near Agra, Uttar Pradesh, after experiencing a “system malfunction,” according to the IAF. Fortunately, the pilot safely ejected, steering the damaged jet away from populated areas to prevent injuries or damage on the ground.
The footage shows the MiG-29 rapidly descending in a flat spin before crashing to the ground. A flat spin is an uncontrolled rotational motion that poses serious risks to flight safety. Following the incident, the IAF launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the crash.
This mishap comes after a prior MiG-29 accident on September 2 in Barmer, Rajasthan, which was attributed to a “critical technical snag.” In that incident, the pilot ejected safely as well.
The USSR originally developed the MiG-29 in 1983, and India acquired it in 1987, implementing several upgrades over the years to enhance its technological capabilities.
