ISLAMABAD: With the arrival of western winds in Pakistan, the weather is likely to turn severely cold across the country which will continue till January 17.

The Meteorological Department said that a new series of western winds will enter North Balochistan from tonight, while rain is likely to occur in different areas of Islamabad, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from tomorrow.

On the other hand, there is a possibility of snowfall on mountains in Murree, Guliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan.

Moreover, Sindh will remain under the grip of severe cold from January 12 to 17, while the minimum temperature in Larkana, Shahdad Kot, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Jamshoro and Tharparkar is likely to be 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.

The national weather forecasting centre said that cold weather is likely to grip Karachi and other parts of the province between January 12 and 17.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a fall in temperature in Karachi in the coming days under the influence of the westerly winds which entered the city on January 09.

Northeastern winds are presently blowing in the city at 14 kilometers of speed, according to the weather report. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 24-26 degrees Celsius today.
