Karachi Weather Update: When will Karachi receive first spell of rain?

• Karachi to experience first monsoon spell from July 7-11 with 30-40mm rainfall expected.

Meteorologist Jawad Memon has predicted that Karachi will experience its first monsoon spell starting from July 7 (Friday), following the recent severe weather conditions in Lahore and other areas of the country. Memon mentioned that the rainfall is anticipated to last until July 11, with an estimated precipitation of 30 to 40 millimeters in the port city.

According to the weather expert, a low-pressure system associated with the monsoon is currently situated over the Bay of Bengal. If this low-pressure area moves towards Gujarat, Karachi can expect rainfall from July 9 to July 11.

“There is no chance of rain in Karachi, for now,” he added.

Officials have reported that Lahore witnessed relentless rainfall today, breaking a three-decade-old record as it received more than 290mm of rain within a 10-hour period. Unfortunately, this extreme weather led to the loss of life, with at least seven people reported dead.

“Three people were electrocuted, two died after roofs collapsed, and a child drowned after rainwater accumulated,” Punjab interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi told journalists in Lahore.

Commissioner Lahore Mohammad Ali Randhawa stated that the metropolis experienced a rainfall of 291mm, with over a dozen areas recording more than 200mm of rain. He attributed this phenomenon to climate change and a robust monsoon season.
