Only days after he fired 57 of their colleagues, accusing them of corruption and sheltering “terrorists.” The strike, which started on Monday, is the latest in a series of escalating actions by Tunisian lawmakers, institutions, and civil society as the country’s political crisis worsens. After saying in a televised address that he had “offered opportunity after opportunity and warning after warning to the judiciary to purify itself,” Saied, who disbanded the country’s elected parliament and seized administrative control last July, issued a new degree expanding his rule over the judiciary.
