Anne Sacoolas , a US citizen who killed juvenile biker Harry Dunn has been given an eight-month prison term with a one-year suspension.
Outside a US military base in Northamptonshire in 2019, Anne Sacoolas struck the 19-year-old while driving on the wrong side of the road.
The case resulted in an argument between the US and UK governments across the Atlantic.
Charlotte Charles said of the family’s three-year wait for justice “we didn’t back down because we have values”.
Sacoolas, who had previously acknowledged causing a death by negligent driving, appeared at London’s Old Bailey via video connection after being instructed not to do so by her employer, the US government.
Mrs. Charles referred to the 45-year-absence old’s as “despicable,” and she expressed her “total revulsion” at what the US was doing.
Sacoolas left the UK 19 days after the crash after the US administration had diplomatic immunity asserted on her behalf.
Mr. Dunn’s father, Tim Dunn, said: “It’s been such a relentless time, we as a family fought off everything we can to get to this point.”
