By the middle of December, checkpoints had seized a total of 6,301 firearms, 88% of which were still loaded.

A 10% rise above the record number set in 2021, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) stated that it anticipates seizing 6,600 weapons by year’s end.

According to the organization, bringing guns into airports requires a substantial amount of resources and is quite expensive for the traveler.

The amount of guns discovered surpasses the previous record from only last year, when 5,972 weapons were found.

The most firearm stops were made at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, and Dallas/Fort Worth Airport in the state of Texas, respectively.

Why more people were trying to pass security while carrying a firearm wasn’t explained.

Despite the fact that concealed weapon permits are legal in several US states, weapons are not permitted in the passenger cabin of an aero plane.

Depending on the number of prior violations and whether the gun was loaded at the time, TSA inspectors who find a firearm at a checkpoint may impose a civil penalty.

Additionally, the organization said that it is increasing the maximum civil fine for a firearms infringement from $13,910 (£11,450) to $14,950.

When unloaded and secured in a hard-sided case, travelers on aero planes are permitted to check a bag containing a handgun.

During check-in, passengers must additionally inform airline staff that they want to bring a firearm with them.

Attempting to bring a pistol past security at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina in April, US Congressman Madison Cawthorn was stopped, according to local authorities.

He cooperated with the police and acknowledged that the weapon was his.

The TSA reported screening more over 2.5 million people countrywide on November 27, the Sunday following Thanksgiving, the greatest number since the pandemic’s beginning.

According to data from the Small Arms Survey, a renowned research project located in Switzerland, there were an estimated 390 million weapons in use in the US in 2018.
