According to the Charlotte Fire Department, scaffolding collapsed, causing construction workers to fall 70 feet.

According to authorities, a construction site accident close to a commercial area in Charlotte, North Carolina, claimed the lives of three workers on Monday.

Shortly after 9 a.m., scaffolding at the building site collapsed, Charlotte Fire Capt. Jackie Gilmore told reporters there. Two additional building workers were transported to a hospital for assessment.

Up until Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigators could assess, all activity at the construction site was halted.

The accident site is being transformed into a posh senior living community, according to Queen City News of Charlotte, although the project’s Houston-based developer, Bridgewood Property Co., claims the incident took place at a nearby property.
