Det Ch Supt Jim Dunkerley said the incident was being handled as a singular occurrence.
The individual was detained early on Friday on suspicion of participating in, planning, or encouraging acts of terrorism in violation of Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
The hospital’s The Gledhow wing had to be evacuated as a result of the incident.
The individual has been detained at a police station in West Yorkshire since his arrest, where he has been questioned by officers, according to the counter terrorism unit.
They said, “On Saturday, Westminster Magistrates’ Court issued a Warrant of Further Detention permitting officers until Friday to hold and further question the suspect if necessary.”
“Extensive” inquiries were ongoing to explore any potential motivation, with the investigation being “large and complex”.
“We continue to treat this as an isolated incident and there is still no evidence to suggest there is any heightened or ongoing risk to the public,” Mr. Dunkerley said.
“Nevertheless, the UK threat level remains at Substantial and we would always encourage the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or behavior to police in confidence.”
