Following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s intentions to make it easier for Israelis to get firearms, an increase in violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem is predicted.

Netanyahu declared on Saturday that he will speed up the process for Israeli residents to obtain firearm permits and intensify measures to gather “illegal firearms”.

Additionally, his office committed to taking fresh action to “strengthen” illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

The declarations were made following a gathering of hardline members in Netanyahu’s security cabinet regarding two shootings, one of which occurred in occupied East Jerusalem.

In the Friday shooting outside an East Jerusalem synagogue, seven people died.

The shootings occurred towards the conclusion of a month of escalating hostilities and come in the wake of an Israeli raid that left nine Palestinians dead in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin as well as firefights between Israel and Gaza. 32 Palestinians had been slain by Israeli soldiers this month in total.

The current Israeli administration, which was inaugurated last month, is the most right-wing in the nation’s history and has caused concern among left-leaning Israelis as well as Palestinians who are subject to an illegal Israeli military occupation in the West Bank and in Israel itself.

Itamar Ben-Gvir, the national security minister, and Bezalel Smotrich, the finance minister, are both members of the new government.

Both have been vocal about their desire to annexed Palestinian land and expand illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank. They are also well known for inciting violence against Palestinians.
