On November 29, police reported that Frank Thompson, 57, was discovered “unconscious and unresponsive on the classroom floor.” In front of pupils at a Westfield school, a New Jersey art instructor overdosed on fentanyl, according to authorities. He was then taken into custody.

In connection with an incident in November, Frank Thompson, 57, was charged on Thursday with possessing a controlled dangerous substance, possessing drug paraphernalia, and endangering the welfare of children.

On the morning of Nov. 29, a school resource officer reported to Westfield police that Thompson had been discovered “unconscious and unresponsive” on a classroom floor at Roosevelt Intermediate School.

According to authorities, Thompson, an art instructor, was being treated by a school nurse when he “was discovered and witnessed in distress by pupils”.

According to the authorities, the school resource officer saw indications of a drug overdose and provided Narcan, an opioid overdose therapy, or naloxone hydrochloride. Thompson then started to act better.

Later, fentanyl and “other types of drug paraphernalia” were discovered by investigators in a closet in the classroom, according to the authorities.

1 February is Thompson’s court date.

Superintendent Raymond González issued a statement saying that while the Westfield Public School District “cannot comment on personnel matters which are confidential,” they “will maintain a continued focus on student and staff safety and on preserving the integrity of the classroom learning environment.” We appreciate the Westfield Police Department’s great cooperation.

Whether Thompson still works for the Westfield Public School District is unknown.
