Zelensky accuses Russia of attacking energy infrastructure to create refugees
Ukraine has lost at least 40% of its ability to make electricity....
The power grid suffered “substantial damage” as a result of the Russian missile strikes on Thursday, according to Ukrenergo, the country’s state-run energy company.
“The recovery of the power grid becomes harder, and lasts longer, after every Russian attack,” the company said in a statement posted to Facebook.
It stated that 15 drone attacks and 13 missile attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities had already occurred.
On Thursday, Russia fired 70 missiles towards Ukraine, 47 of which were shot down, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ daily operations statement on Facebook.
44 airstrikes were also conducted by Moscow’s forces, 18 of which used drones made in Iran, specifically the Shahed-136. The Ukrainian Armed Forces said that all self-detonating drones were destroyed.
Denys Shmyhal, the prime minister of Ukraine, said earlier that energy facilities were the major objectives.
