School officials were warned three times that the youngster might have a pistol on the day he shot and injured his instructor in the US state of Virginia, according to the teacher’s attorney.

A request to search the boy was made, and a different child said that the boy had showed a gun to him.

Abigail Zwerner, a 25-year-old teacher, is healing after being discharged from the hospital last week.

The result was that the school’s superintendent was fired.

George Parker was fired by the Richneck Elementary School board by a 5 to 1 vote.

Only a few hours after Ms. Zwerner’s attorney, Diane Toscano, announced preparations to sue the district, claiming that the shooting was “absolutely preventable,” Mr. Parker was fired.

No charges have been made public by the police.

The 6 January shooting – which authorities have described as “intentional” – rocked the Virginia city of Newport News, and raised questions about what legal consequences may follow and for whom.

“On that day, over the course of a few hours, three different times – three times – school administration was warned by concerned teachers and employees that the boy had a gun on him at school and was threatening people,” said Ms. Toscano.

“But the administration could not be bothered.”

Police reported that the child shot Ms. Zwerner in the middle of a session at around 14:00.

According to Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew, after being shot in the hand and the chest, Ms. Zwerner ushered her kids out of the classroom and saved lives.

The youngster’s mother, according to the police, legitimately acquired the gun the boy used. The weapon, according to the boy’s family, had been “secured.” To this claim, the police have not responded.

According to Virginia law, it is illegal to carelessly leave a loaded, unattended firearm in a position that could put a young kid in danger.
