Authorities in Colombia have accused an American of killing a female DJ in that country, whose body was found in a suitcase at the bottom of a trash bin.
The Panamanian National Police reported that John Poulos was apprehended and arrested on Tuesday while attempting to fly to Istanbul from Panama’s Tocumen International Airport.
Poulos spoke through a translator during a lengthy, five-hour court session that was broadcast live on television in Bogota to refute the allegations regarding the death of popular electronic music DJ Valentina Trespalacios, age 23.
A recycler discovered Trespalacios’ body in the early hours of January 22 in a trash can south-west of Bogota.
The court already heard information on a relationship between Trespalacios and Poulos on Thursday.
In Poulos’s defense, it was claimed that his arrest had been flawed and that due process had not been followed.
Poulos and Trespalacios may be seen in more than 300 hours of security tape, according to the Colombian Prosecutor’s Office and police, which shows them together before her body was discovered.
The date of the next hearing is January 31.
