Philippines: On Saturday, a soldier went rogue and opened fire on sleeping service personnel within an army camp in northern Mindanao, south of the Philippines, killing four soldiers and gravely injuring another, according to the Philippine military.
The suspected murderer was also killed by gunfire. Various sources claim.
At approximately 1.10 p.m. local time, the event occurred within Camp Evangelista in Cagayan de Oro City. According to a report, command duty officer Major Alden Brinas stated that the four victims died quickly on the site.
Brinas stated that after the initial shooting, the gunman attempted to enter another room, but two other troops battled with him, seized his handgun, and shot him dead.
According to the officer, the critically injured soldier was being treated at a local hospital.
Brinas did not say what prompted the gunman to go on the rampage. The shooting event is under investigation.
