Chicago: Daughter charged after mom’s body found in freezer

Chicago: A lady in Chicago has been charged with storing her mother’s remains in a freezer for over two years while living in a neighboring apartment.

Eva Bratcher, 69, appeared in court on Thursday on allegations of hiding the death of her 96-year-old mother and holding a forged identification card.

Regina Michalski’s body was discovered this week in a freezer in a garage near their shared apartment, according to authorities. According to investigators, she died in March 2021. The cause will not be known until the body is thawed.

The claims are “extremely distressing,” according to Judge David Kelly, who set a $20,000 bond for Bratcher.

Kelly denied a defense attorney’s plea for a lesser bond in order to get Bratcher out of jail.

She has a history of forgery convictions.

She has a history of forgery charges, and authorities claimed they were looking into whether Bratcher was receiving her late mother’s Social Security payments, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

After losing communication with her grandma, Bratcher’s daughter, who resides in Kentucky, requested that police search the house.

“What could go wrong? Apparently, everything,” Sabrina Watson said.
