A “ferocious” knife attack on a total stranger in London‘s crowded Oxford Street was carried out by a violent offender.

After travelling from his home in Swansea in July 2021, Tedi Fanta, 27, who was on bail, fatally stabbed Stephen Dempsey, 60, according to the verdict of an Old Bailey jury, which took an hour to reach.

Fanta was deemed medically incompetent to face trial, which led to the decision.

The young man who was “very, very unwell” will be sentenced after a psychiatrist may be asked to testify.

Fanta was expected to receive a hospital order with limitations, according to Judge Michael Topolski KC.

Prior to 20:00BST, outside the Microsoft store on Oxford Street, Fanta allegedly brandished the weapon and jumped on the retired public worker from behind.

The Old Bailey was informed that a couple of passing skateboarders sprang into action and struck Fanta with their boards in an effort to disarm him.

While other bystanders attended to the victim, who was visiting the capital from Essex, they assisted in restraining the attacker until armed police arrived.

Fanta was speaking “incoherently” and suffering from a head injury when police arrived. The skateboard had struck him in the head.

Belfast-born Mr. Dempsey passed away later that night in the hospital after being stabbed four times in the chest.
