Syrian regime requests US and EU to lift sanctions
In the wake of Monday’s earthquake, the Syrian regime has increased its calls for the lifting of economic US and EU sanctions.
Relief organizations operating in Syria’s areas under government control have blamed the Western sanctions for the country’s shortage of the heavy gear and medical supplies needed to clear the debris and heal the injured.
The sanctions were placed on Syria in an effort to compel the government to engage in a political process that would put an end to the ongoing civil war.
