In a parliamentary vote on Wednesday, the majority of Finnish legislators voted in favor of the nation’s application to join NATO.

“On 1 March 2023, Parliament approved the government proposal on Finland’s accession to NATO by a vote of 184-7,” the parliament said in a statement.

In response to worries about security following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Finland and its neighbor Sweden submitted applications to join NATO.

The ascent of Sweden and Finland into NATO should be approved by parliament “soon as soon as possible,” the president of Hungary, Katalin Novák, recently expressed.

Finland and Sweden’s applications to join the military alliance have been approved so far by 28 of the 30 countries.

Only Turkey and Hungary have not yet completed this.
