Isle of Man schools closed for second day
Due to the significant snowfall that occurred overnight, schools on the Isle of Man are still closed today.
Due to the deteriorating weather, all schools and universities on the island were closed on Thursday.
Ronaldsway Met Office said while the snow would “soon turn slushy” in the morning’s bright and sunny conditions, a widespread frost would create “hazardous conditions on the pavements and roads” later.
A government spokeswoman said “the safety of pupils and staff travelling to and from school across the island is of paramount importance”.
One of the individuals noted in Mairead’s piece below who have been active in clearing their driveways is Nick Weston of Ainley Top, West Yorkshire.
“It happens every year,” he says. No doubt he’s earned a hot cup of tea after all that effort.
Even while driving has been extremely difficult, the snow has provided people some stunning vistas of the countryside.
After a challenging night and early morning for drivers on this stretch of the M62 in West Yorkshire, traffic is starting to move more freely on the westbound side, but issues continue on the eastbound side, which is largely empty of any vehicles.
Those who live here have spent time shovelings deep snow out of their driveways while dog walkers have continued to brave the local pavements.
