In a six-month special operation beginning in April, Chinese police have solved more than 7,880 cases of elder fraud, as per the Ministry of Public Security on Tuesday.
More than 17,510 offenders were apprehended and 1,040 criminal gangs were dismantled, according to the government, which added that the national operation recovered about 8,4 billion yuan (approximately $1.26 billion) in financial loss for victims.

As per the ministry, the crackdown targeted scams involving fundraising, illegal deposit-taking, pyramid schemes, contract fraud, the production and distribution of counterfeit goods and pharmaceuticals, and other activities disguised as investments in aged care.
The ministry pledged to maintain a firm stance against illicit operations of this nature and to protect the rights and interests of senior citizens.
