MAKKAH: The President of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Holy Mosque and the Prophet’s Holy Mosque, Sheikh Dr Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, has approved the project for translating the Arafat sermon in 20 languages.

While announcing the largest translation project in the history of the presidency, the General President stated that the aim is to reach half a billion beneficiaries to deliver the message of the Kingdom’s tolerance to the world.

During the virtual media meeting to review the plan of the “Haram Media Pavilion” initiative, he President of the General Presidency Sheikh Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais announced the project for translating the sermon of the Day of Arafat.

He stated that the project aims to reach 500 million listeners, which is the largest number of beneficiaries for this project since its inception He stated that the project aims to continue the Kingdom’s journey in serving the guests of the Most Merciful and highlighting the Kingdom’s message of tolerance, love, and invitation to moderation and balance.

He affirmed the completion of preparations for translating the Arafat sermon to present the Kingdom’s moderate message to the world in 20 different international languages through the support of the Minaret Al-Haramain platform.

The General President added, “This project comes as part of the keenness of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may God protect him, and Crown Prince, may God protect him, to spread the moderation of the Islamic religion in all corners of the world and highlight the Kingdom’s role in serving the guests of the Most Merciful.”

He continued, “This leap is the first of its kind in the history of the presidency, a proud milestone of support from our wise leadership for the programs of the presidency, including this pioneering project named after the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, may God protect him.”

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais emphasized that the Arafat sermon is one of the most prominent and important components of the operational plan of the presidency for the current Hajj season under the slogan “Spreading Guidance to the World” through the project of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for the immediate translation of the Arafat sermon.

He further stated, “To keep pace with the evolving wheel of the presidency according to Vision 2030, it was necessary to enhance the level of the Language and Translation Agency in its services to target more than 500 million beneficiaries in conveying the message of moderate Islam to Muslims in their different languages and to the whole world through a dedicated application for translating the sermon on mobile devices and the presidency’s website, as well as the Minaret Al-Haram platform.”

He said that the translation of the Arafat sermon aims to highlight the bright and civilized image of the Hanafi Islamic religion, to maximize its moderation, balance, values, and virtues, and to showcase the efforts of the state in taking care of the Two Holy Mosques, the holy sites, and serving Islam and Muslims.

In addition, it aims to highlight the reality of the Kingdom’s religious discourse and its moderation, and to ensure the delivery of the message of this noble religion to the entire world using modern technological means.

The project targets the pilgrims present in the Arafat area, the Muslim community worldwide, and those interested and willing to listen to the sermon among non-Arabic speaking Muslims and non-Muslims.

The translation project was launched in 1439 AH with translation into 5 languages, broadcasting through two digital platforms and 5 FM radio stations, benefiting more than 13 million beneficiaries at that time. In the following year, the number of languages was increased by 6, and a sixth radio station was added.
