Near Seaworld on Australia’s Gold Coast, two helicopters collided in midair, killing four people.

According to Queensland’s emergency service, the nine additional passengers on board the two aircraft received medical attention for their wounds.

A woman and two small boys, three passengers, were sent to the hospital in critical condition.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has stated that an investigation would be conducted.

Around 14:00 local time (04:00 GMT), the incident happened on Main Beach, a popular tourist route about 75 kilometres (47 miles) south of Brisbane.

According to Queensland police officer Gary Worrell, it appeared as though one helicopter was taking off and the other was landing.

He said that the same aircraft was responsible for the four fatalities and three major injuries.

It’s a challenging scene, he remarked. It was challenging to acquire access and send our emergency personnel to the spot to handle it properly because of the place it was located in, on the sand bank.

Images from the crash site show the area littered with wreckage and a wrecked helicopter seemingly laying on its side beside the Seaworld theme park.

The popular marine park’s emblem is painted on the side of the other aircraft, which seems to have safely landed following the crash.

The main entrance to the marine park, Seaworld Drive, has been blocked off to traffic by local police.

As emergency personnel assessed the site, they advised drivers and pedestrians to stay away from the area.

In order to gather information, examine the wreckage, and speak with witnesses, investigators from the ATSB’s Brisbane and Canberra offices have been dispatched to the area.

Eyewitnesses who saw the accident or the helicopters in flight are also requested to get in touch with investigators, according to ATSB Chief Commissioner Angus Mitchell.

A comprehensive report would be released after the inquiry is finished, he noted, and a preliminary report will be released in the next six to eight weeks.

With kids on summer vacation, the Gold Coast region is now experiencing its busiest travel season.
