Good news for all women as Islamabad High Court has dismissed the petition against holding of Aurat March 2020.

Islamabad High Court has dismissed the request against the organizing of Aurat March. Chief Justice Athar Mianallah has released a written verdict.

Islamabad High Court had the verdict yesterday on the maintainability on a petition filed to stop Aurat March 2020.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Mianallah presided the hearing today. The federal government and the chief commissioner of Islamabad were present as respondents.

While issuing a written statement, chief justice Athar said women are being exploited through practices (Karokari, Vani, etc). He said such things are happening in a country where 87% of people call themselves Muslims. He said tribal practices against women must be defeated.

It was also said in the written statement that women are deprived of their rights in today’s era. Early marriages, adultery, and honor killing are common in our society. He also gave an example of the Zainab rape case that young girls are not secured in this country.

Note that the government has announced that it is supporting Aurat March. It has also hoped that participants would not target the dignity and harmony of the country.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on information Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said the government supports the gathering if it “does not trample on the country’s honor”.

“We will have to trace who is that handful of people who possess this mindset and why they are busy in misleading the entire nation, especially women,”

Opposition parties PML-N and PPP have also expressed full support to the mass gathering.
