After rowing boat capsizes in Orlando, 1 student missing and another is hospitalised

Authorities said a rowing team’s boat capsized after a likely lightning strike in Orlando, leaving one student missing and another injured.

Members of the North Orlando Rowing Club were on the water at Lake Fairview shortly before 6 p.m. when lightning struck the region, according to preliminary reports, according to an Orlando Fire Department statement. The boat held five persons.

According to the fire department, one kid was transported to AdventHealth Orlando while a dive team searched for the missing student.

According to officials, the youngsters are from several schools in Central Florida. It’s unclear how old they are, but according to a North Orlando Rowing Club schedule, middle and high school kids were exercising at the time of the alleged lightning hit, according to NBC affiliate WESH of Orlando. The North Orlando Rowing Club did not respond to a request for comment on Friday.
