Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y vehicle prices have just risen. The electric-car manufacturer raised rates for the fifth time in a few months in May. The firm has kept silent on the reason for the increase. That is, until now.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Monday, May 31. He stated the reason behind hikes is “major supply chain pressure industry-wide,” adding, “Raw materials especially.”
Musk explained the cause of the problem, which is a chip shortage, as it is for automakers worldwide, though he stated that Tesla was “mostly out of that problem” at the time.
Recent pricing increases have seen the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus climb from $39,490 to $39,990, and the Model 3 Long Range AWD climb from $48,490 to $48,990. Tesla’s Model Y Long Range AWD has also received a $500 price hike, bringing it to $51,990.
Musk’s tweet was in reaction to a post by an obviously dissatisfied observer who stated, “I really don’t like the direction Tesla is going raising prices of vehicles but removing features like lumbar for the Model Y.”
Seats with adjustable lumbar support can help improve comfort, especially on extended trips. However, it has just come to light that Tesla has removed the feature from the Model 3 and Model Y passenger seats.
In response to the issue, Musk acknowledged in the same tweet. The functionality, which gently inflates or deflates the seat, was removed from the front passenger seat of the Model 3 and Model Y due to infrequent use. “The logs revealed hardly any usage. “It’s not worth the cost/mass for everyone if it’s nearly never used,” Musk stated.
The price increases will irritate individuals hoping to acquire a new Tesla vehicle. Especially those who have been carefully planning for the costly purchase. And who’s to say there won’t be more in the coming months? It remains to be seen whether the corporation intends to lower pricing once supply chain difficulties have been resolved.
