Over 43,000 street crime incidents reported in Karachi this year

KARACHI: The Karachi continues to face alarming levels of street crime, with 43,419 incidents reported in the first eight months of 2025.

According to police data, 60 citizens lost their lives and 216 others were injured while resisting robberies. However, official records list the death toll at 53 fatalities in such incidents.

Between January and August, criminals snatched 11,268 mobile phones, 1,430 cars, and 30,721 motorcycles through theft or armed robberies.

The statistics reveal alarming daily averages: 46.37 mobile phones snatched per day,  5.88 cars stolen or snatched per day, 126.42 motorcycles stolen or snatched per day . Despite the soaring numbers, residents continue to voice concerns over the lack of effective policing and preventive measures.

Notably, the figures show a slight decrease compared to last year. By August 2024, Karachi had already reported 49,615 incidents of street crime, indicating the problem persists at a massive scale despite the marginal drop.

In the first 8 months of 2024, 78 people were killed and 310 were injured in a robbery resistance. In the first 8 months of last year, 13,406 mobile phones were snatched from citizens while 1342 vehicles and 34,867 motorcycles were stolen and stolen.
