LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance and streamline the prison visitation system across the province.

The reforms come as part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s “Safe Prisons” policy, aimed at improving conditions and facilities within Punjab’s correctional institutions.

According to official directives, all prisons have been instructed to ensure the provision of clean, secure, and clearly designated parking areas near prison premises. Arrangements must be made to facilitate safe parking for the vehicles and motorcycles of visitors.

These steps are part of a broader reform initiative to make the prison environment safer and more organized for both inmates and their visiting families.

It was directed to install clean and appropriate number of chairs or benchs in the waiting room for all the meetings. Air coolers should be installed in the waiting room during the summer.

According to SOPs, separate seats should be arranged for elderly citizens, people with disabilities and women, regular procedures should be adopted to invite visitors to the number or group.
