When a British guy developed a riding lawn mower that travels at 143.19 mph, he set a Guinness World Record.

About two years ago, Tony Edwards, a mechanical engineer from St. Martins, Shropshire, England, became interested in constructing the world’s quickest lawnmower.

He tells the Shropshire Star, “I know that a guy from the U.K. had the record at one point, at 96 mph. Then I think Honda had it at 116mph, and then a team from Norway did it at 132 mph, and I thought I’d give it a try.”

Edwards claimed he constructed the lawnmower from the ground up, with the assistance of a welding specialist for part of the chassis work.

A Suzuki motorcycle’s 1300cc engine powers the lawnmower.

According to Edwards, Guinness also required that the lawnmower must be capable of cutting grass.

According to him, “I had to send videos to Guinness to prove that it was a lawnmower.”

When Edwards took his lawnmower for a spin at Elvington Airfield in York, England, it attained a top speed of 143.193 mph.

Edwards believes the lawnmower could travel quicker, but that it would be more dangerous since the front wheels would leave the ground, making control impossible.
