Fisheries officials suspended for supporting illegal trawlers in Balochistan

QUETTA: The Fisheries department of Balochistan has suspended its senior officials and other staff for their alleged involvement in facilitating the mafia in illegal trawling in the Balochistan waters in Makran and launched an inquiry in this regard.

According to the official sources, Secretary Fisheries Balochistan, Kazim Jatoi, has directed the concerned authorities to initiate a probe into massive corruption and involvement of the senior officials of the department posted at Gwadar coastline.

“An assistant director, three fisheries inspectors and some other staff has been suspended with immediate effect after receiving credible information through secret inquiry  about their involvement in illegal trawling in Balochistan’s waters,” a senior official of the fisheries department confirmed.

Sources said that Kazim Jatoi, the Secretary Fisheries and Director General of the department Saifullah Khetran have camped in Gwadar to monitor action initiated against illegal trawling of other provinces and foreign fishing vessels in Balochistan waters.

They have taken serious notice of the involvement of staff of the department in this regard.
