TEHRAN: The funeral prayer for late Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and other senior officials was led by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and was attended by thousands of people.

National media revealed that, Ismail Haniyeh, leader of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, was also present at the funeral. He expressed his condolences for the tragic death of the Iranian president and other officials on behalf of his group.

The prayer was offered three days after the incident took place. He will be laid to rest in the premises of Imam Ali Reza Mausoleum in Mashhad.

“Bodies of president Raisi and his companions were transferred to Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport on Tuesday after a funeral in northwestern city of Tabriz,” according to Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

It should be remembered that the helicopter of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi crashed on May 19 on the border of Azerbaijan while returning from the opening ceremony of a dam due to bad weather.

The officials accompanying the Iranian President and Foreign were Supreme Leader’s representative Ali Ale-Hashem, East Azerbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, two bodyguards, two pilots and one crew member.

Mr. Raisi and others were declared dead after charred wreckage of the Bell 212 helicopter early Monday morning after overnight search operation in blizzard conditions.

It is pertinent to mention that mourning period for the death of Iranian president is being observed across the country.
