The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning that Punjab is likely to experience heatwaves in the current month of April.

The authority has called on the public to take the necessary precautions. Pakistan, being one of the top 10 countries most susceptible to erratic weather patterns, is facing a range of climate-related issues.

As per the statement from the PDMA, a significant increase in heat intensity is anticipated in April, with temperatures predicted to slightly exceed the average of the past 30 years.

“There are chances of heatwaves in the plains of Punjab. The effects of heatwaves will be particularly high in major cities,” the PDMA declared.

In addition, the PDMA has cautioned that the province is expected to be impacted by strong winds, dust storms, heavy rain, and hail. These heavy rains could potentially result in river flooding.

The statement further mentioned that Irfan Ali Kathia, the Director-General of PDMA Punjab, has instructed the local administration to stay alert to seasonal changes.

“Rescue organizations and district administration should buckle up now. Citizens should also be made aware of weather changes and precautionary measures.”
