Why has Shireen Mazari been arrested?

LAHORE: The sources within anti-corruption department have revealed that former federal minister for human rights Shireen Mazari was arrested in the case of misplacing records of government lands.

The case against Mazari was registered in Dera Ghazi Khan a month and a half ago, while PTI leader Usman Buzdar was the Punjab chief minister.

The sources said Mazari’s father Ashiq Mazari was accused of misplacing the records of the finance department to save his thousands of kanals of land.

Some time ago, the anti-corruption agency had sought the land acquisition of Shireen Mazari’s father after 51 years.

The sources said Ashiq Mazari, along with employees of the finance department, allegedly made the record disappear.

An FIR was lodged against Shireen Mazari for she was owner of her father’s land, they added.

Former director general of the anti-corruption department, Rai Manzoor Nasir had registered the case after searching the records of the Finance Department, sources of the anti-corruption department said.

Police have allegedly beaten and arrested senior PTI leader Shireen Mazari on Saturday.

Shireen’s daughter, Iman Mazari said she was told that Anti-Corruption Wing personnel took her with them.

“Male police officers have beaten and taken my mother away. All I have been told is that Anti Corruption Wing Lahore has taken her,” Iman Mazari tweeted.

Quoting sources as saying, Bol news channel reported police were shifting Shireen Mazari to Lahore from Margalla Hill police station.

Iman Mazari termed this act of law enforcers an abduction. She said her mother was tortured and she was not given any information. She said she did not exactly know as to who had taken her mother.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser said if the law enforcement agencies had any evidence against Shireen Mazari, then they should present them. He said the government could not crush the anti-government movement through such actions.
