Former President Donald Trump is urging Republican House members to endorse Kevin McCarthy for speaker of the House by reiterating their support for the GOP leader.
“It’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN,” Trump wrote in a post to his Truth Social platform.
Trump implored Republicans not to “TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT” after a day marred by commotion on the House floor.
According to two sources with knowledge of the situation, the former president did not issue a statement on Monday reiterating his endorsement of McCarthy for speaker of the house despite a behind-the-scenes effort from several McCarthy allies to get Trump to do so.
This came despite the fact that Trump was asked to do so by several McCarthy allies.
