According to local health officials, Brazil verified the country’s first case of monkeypox on Thursday in the city of Sao Paulo.

The virus was discovered in a 41-year-old male who had travelled to Spain and Portugal, according to the city’s health office.

The patient is currently being treated in isolation at the Emilio Ribas Public Hospital, while his recent contacts are being tracked.

According to the secretariat, another possible monkeypox case being examined in Sao Paulo concerns a 26-year-old woman who is currently hospitalised.
