ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his commitment to increasing bilateral trade between Pakistan and Uzbekistan to $2 billion by 2029, while inviting Uzbek investors to expand their investments in Pakistan.

Addressing the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum, the Prime Minister noted that previous business forums had helped trade reach $45 million, but there is significant potential for further growth.

Several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed between Pakistan and Uzbekistan across multiple sectors, strengthening cooperation.

Highlighting trade opportunities, Shehbaz Sharif said, “Uzbekistan has high demand for rice and potatoes, which Pakistan can supply.” He also described over $3 billion in agreements between the private sectors of both countries as a major achievement.

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his commitment to effective implementation of the bilateral agreements.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a joint Pakistan-Uzbekistan communiqué, stating that Pakistan has offered Uzbek transit cargo access to its ports and road network, while the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway project received mutual approval.

During the ceremony at the Presidential Palace, the Uzbek President was also awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the country’s highest civil honor.
